Due to circumstances beyond my control I have not attended any fairs this year, and I won’t be attending any in the forseeable future.
I have been quite busy making costumes for the staff of the newport Ship. A Pirate’s coat, britches and shirt. A Tunic for a medieaval peasant and a gown and overrobe for a medieaval lady. These will be used at the Open Days when the ship is on view to the public. This will not be happening for much longer because the second stage of the process of conservation starts soon and the chemicals that are added to the tanks are too dangerous for the public to be allowed in.
I am also making a pirate costume for a thre year old because there is a Pirate’s Day to be held at Tredegar House, here in Newport on May 26th. See you there perhaps.
I will be at the Art and craft fair in the Gallery of Newport market on Saturday 8th December. This is my last fair of the year. I have made some christmas tree decorations - Mouse-angels and Chicken-angels which are quite cute. I hoped to have a picture of them on the website but haven’t had the time to take any yet.
I have just completed a commission that included a tablecover with an applique frontispiece and several sashes and I am about to start making a mediaeval gown, robe and headdress for the Friends of Newport Ship.
I have been unable to do much sewing for the past two weeks because we had a leak on the central heating system that soaked the carpet in the room where all the sewing machines live. This has meant that we have had to take all the stuff - including more than 200 books on quilting and embroidery - out of that room and stack it around the rest of the house. Now I cannot get to the machines and until the new carpet is laid next week I won’t be able to sew anything. I have managed to do a lot of handwork, including the beading on several evening purses - as soon as the carpet is done I will be able to finish these and photograph them for the website. I should be pretty busy for the week before the Newport Craft Fair on 29th October just catching up on things.
One of those weeks when good intentions never translate into achievement. Every time I sit in front of the sewing machine something happens that totally distracts me. I have an idea for a different bag, one with some embellishment on it - butterflies flowers, that sort of thing. Every time I start the process of making the prototype someone or something requires all my attention immediately. I have decided to try again on Monday and have been making sure that everything else is done and the answer machine works so I can be undisturbed.
I have posted a list of the fairs I will be attending this year. There may be one or two more but they are not confirmed yet.
I have had several commissions recently for banners. This is a new venture for me althought they were fairly simple designs. I have also custom made several large tote bags, and completed the first stage of creating an embroidered badge from a company logo.
8 December. The Gallery, Newport Market.
I hope to be able to use this journal to tell people about my latest additions to the items I have for sale and also to let you know when I am attending craft fairs.
Once I have worked out how to use this part of the site properly I will probably find lots of things to talk about. Until then I will just say thank you for taking a look at my site, I hope you will return to see what else I have made in the future
