About Me
I began sewing to give my young children something a little more individual to wear. At first, I used commercial patterns, but soon began to adjust, adapt and sometimes completely redesign the pieces as they became outmoded or outgrown.
As the children grew up and left home, I found that searching for fabrics and making things from them had become an interesting and satisfying hobby. Friends started asking for costumes for parties, games conventions and live roleplaying, and soon I was making a wider variety of outfits than ever before.
Making unusual and interesting clothes creates a lot of unusual and interesting offcuts that look too useful to be thrown away. I was never drawn to the idea of traditional patchwork, but the idea of painting pictures with fabric is far more intriguing.
Appliqué and quilting can be time-consuming but very rewarding processes, especially when the end result is an unique, hand made illustration in exotic fabrics. As interest in my work has grown, some clients have asked me to produce embroidered, quilted and embellished pieces on a smaller scale, as gifts for Christmas, birthdays, Christenings and similar occasions.
I still enjoy producing costumes and custom-designed quilts to order, whilst my range of bags, cushions, door stops and similar gifts provide smaller samples of my work. All of the items I make are unique and individual, so each item in a group, for example a set of table-mats, will be slightly different. Please, have a look around my galleries, and if what you see inspires ideas you'd like to discuss further, feel free to contact me.
